Kia Gregory is a journalist drawn to examining how people and how their communities are affected by public policy, with a particular focus on racial justice.
Kia has covered local politics, education and the criminal legal system, and earned numerous awards for her enterprise reporting and narrative writing. Her work has appeared in publications such as The Atlantic, The New Republic and The New Yorker, and she has been on staff as a reporter at the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Philadelphia Weekly.
As a journalism scholar, Kia researches the societal impact of media narratives, how journalism intersects with social-justice organizing, and journalism as a public good, with an emphasis on critical thinking, empathy, and community-centered reporting.
Kia is also the founder of LEGACY, a community-led media collective and forthcoming news magazine, focused on Black policy, Black power, and Black joy.
Kia is an author at Knopf, currently working on a narrative non-fiction book titled Indictment: An American Tragedy. The book interweaves the stories of four individuals indelibly impacted by ongoing police violence against African Americans, highlighting their fight for justice and healing.
